Home for the Holidays: Navigating Dysfunctional Family Dynamics

This month's Community Support Series will be led by AGP therapists in training, Katy Haney and Kadence Mitchell. They will present a session on navigating dysfunctional family dynamics all year round, but specifically during the holiday season. They will arm you with increased knowledge and awareness around the issues that adult children from alcoholic, substance-abusing and otherwise dysfunctional homes face, and empower you to care for yourself this holiday season. ⠀

Dysfunctional family dynamics can range in experiences from various forms of abuse such as parental substance abuse, parental mental health (such as narcissistic personality disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, depression, PTSD, etc), lasting effects of adverse childhood experiences, parents who were neglectful, abusive, or absent, and more. Adults who are struggling with or healing from these experiences may benefit from joining this community series, which will provide information about what dysfunctional family dynamics are, how adverse experiences in childhood and adolescence impact individuals into adulthood, and how to create boundaries and practice self-care during this time of year. ⠀
