A note from Tamar:

I see therapy as a journey - one that may include growth and clarity, as well as uncertainty, discomfort, and unexpected turns. I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, substance use and addiction, relationship or parenting challenges, and significant life transitions. These experiences, along with the relationships we encounter throughout life, can shape how we understand ourselves and connect with others. Over time, our experiences and relationships can shape how we understand ourselves and connect with others, sometimes leaving us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or caught in patterns that no longer serve us. You do not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. We can start with what you are experiencing now and move at a pace that feels right for you.

My Approach:

My approach is relational, integrative, and trauma-informed. I believe meaningful therapy begins with a genuine relationship in which you feel safe enough to be honest, even when you feel uncertain or do not yet have the words to express what you are experiencing. You bring your lived experience and understanding of your own world; I bring curiosity, compassion, and clinical knowledge. Together, we can explore what has shaped you and discover what feels meaningful and helpful to you.

I believe that even the parts of ourselves we struggle with often developed for a reason—to help us cope, stay connected, or feel protected. Rather than judging these parts, we can approach them with curiosity and compassion. Together, we may explore how relationships, family dynamics, cultural experiences, trauma, or loss shape the present while developing practical tools to manage emotions and create meaningful change.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can help process traumatic or distressing experiences that continue to affect us in the present. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, to help reduce the emotional intensity of difficult memories. We will determine together whether EMDR is a good fit, with safety, preparation, and your pace guiding the process.

Alongside EMDR, I integrate attachment and family-systems perspectives, psychodynamic therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy-informed approaches, CBT, and DBT to provide thoughtful, individualized care.

My own journey - from working as a social worker abroad to becoming a therapist in California - has deepened my appreciation for the ways culture, family, and life transitions shape us. I strive to be warm, present, and engaged in the therapy room. I may offer a new perspective or gently challenge you, but our work will always be collaborative and guided by what feels authentic to you. Alongside difficult emotions, there can also be room for warmth, humor, connection, and hope. My hope is that our work helps you understand yourself more deeply, feel more grounded and connected in your relationships, and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and trust in yourself.

I am pleased to share that I am in-network with Aetna Insurance, Wellfleet, and Stanford University SHIP Student Health Insurance Plan.
