A note from Tiffany:

We all long to belong.

Too often, we lack a safe space to be our authentic selves. It might be that we identify differently from how we are perceived. Or that we have been marginalized in a place we call home. Or that we find ourselves in a career that doesn’t fit who we are or what we want in life.

In today’s society, we are constantly weighed down by external demands: our society’s prejudices, our parents’ hopes for our futures, our partners’ desires, our managers’ requests, and the list goes on. With so many expectations, it can be difficult to tune out the noise and listen to our internal voices.

My life experiences have given me insight into the difficulties we face as we begin to negotiate our desires with society’s definitions of “success.” I started my career as a management consultant and struggled with a feeling of discord between what I was doing and who I was. My journey to becoming a psychotherapist began when I lowered the volume on the external noise. I was then able to cultivate an understanding of the delicate balance between inner-self, socio-cultural environment and relational dynamics.

As a biracial woman who has lived and worked in both Japan and the US, I understand the complexity of navigating multiple cultures. I am keenly aware of how cultural and societal narratives shape how we see ourselves and how we develop relationships, and I hold space for unpacking the role that identity plays in our experiences.

My approach:

I utilize an eclectic approach to counseling including acceptance and commitment therapy, a relational and systems approach, and cognitive-behavioral theories. We will work together to answer the questions, what is most important to you? What kind of life do you want to live? How do you become the you that you want to be?

We will also look at the relationships in your life and help you identify existing relational patterns and understand the origins of your behaviors. We will work to nurture and grow your innate strengths and talents, while healing the wounds you’ve suffered thus far.

Partaking in therapy is a courageous step towards living as your authentic self. I look forward to working with you and helping you along your journey.

I am pleased to share that I am in-network with Aetna Insurance in California.
